The tool required some fiddling. For TFS 2015 servers be sure to check how the areas and iteration paths are being saved and copied over to destination. First, make sure that the XML documents in PopulateIterations function are matched correctly AreaTree to Areas and IterationsTree to iterations. Also, in GenerateAreas/Iterations I deleted the continue statement in the catch which solved an issue of not writing all iteration paths.

This tool had many issues, but with a little bit of work I was able to get it to work. Uploaded my changes as a patch. Many thanks to folks that put the initial cut together - a lot of the tough stuff was done for me

I successfully used this tool to migrate our work items (user stories, bugs etc.) I had to make four changes to the source to get it to work with our TFS 2012 installation. I suspect the early application crash mentioned by BertBrounds was caused by the same problem. Download the latest source and open in VS2012 Download the latest source and open in VS2012 Change this if (workItem.Type.Name == "User Story") { newWorkItem = new WorkItem(workItemTypes["Product Backlog Item"]); } else if (workItem.Type.Name == "Issue") { newWorkItem = new WorkItem(workItemTypes["Impediment"]); To if (workItem.Type.Name == "User Story") { newWorkItem = new WorkItem(workItemTypes["User Story"]); } else if (workItem.Type.Name == "Issue") { newWorkItem = new WorkItem(workItemTypes["Issue"]); There is a second bit of code that does almost the same thing, make the same fix i.e. change "Product Backlog Item" and ""Impediment" to "User Story" and "Issue"

This is a really neat idea. We need tools like this and more until Microsoft gives us more robust Admin tools. Keep up the good work.

Application crashes really early on. Not much left to review other than that.

Total TFS Garbage... Program crashes on copy form anything. Can't copy History of task which is a Major sore point with clients. Can't copy from different templates Agile vs Scrum. Needs major work to get to 2.0.

It's called the Total TFS Migration Tool, BUT No Version Control – Project source code will not be transferred! This project shows up in Google and Bing searches you know. People will come here hoping for a tool to help them transfer the useful parts of a project between TFS servers but certainly not find it here. Perhaps the word "Total" is bit misleading. Partial TFS Migration tool would be more accurate.
